Hawkhurst School Project
The project was called ‘Climbing Vine’ and was commissioned by Kent County Council.
The project consisted of a residency during which each child and staff member at the school made a series of small leaves.
These were then assembled together to form larger leaves that then helped to make up the ceramic art vine for outside each classroom.
In addition to the Vine, we created seven ‘Insect Planters’ to go outside each classroom.
The colour of each planter represented the colour of that class
Green Class, for example, has a green caterpillar planter.
The children also helped to glaze these planters, and took part in assembling the vine itself.
The project was nominated for the Rouse Public Art Award 2005.
